The Right Order to Apply Skincare Products

Skincare routines can be challenging, especially when you have multiple products lying around and have no idea how to start! If you are confused regarding the same, you are at the right place! Applying products in the right order is the perfect way to obtain shiny, glowing skin. Let us look at how to do so.

Why does the order of skincare product application matter?

The order of product application does matter. This is because the order of product application can affect the kind of results you obtain. For instance, if you apply a light serum over a thick moisturizer, you won’t be able to obtain the full benefits of the serum as the moisturizer would block it out. Make sure to also check your skin type and buy the right products (that suit your skin) for maximum results.

Step-by-step skincare routine to follow:

Let us look at the order in which the skincare products can be applied:

  1. Cleansing: Start your day and even night routine with cleanser. Cleansing can get rid of excessive oil and dirt that can accumulate on your face and spoil its shine. Go for a mild, gentle cleanser to prevent your skin from being irritated or inflamed. Double cleansing would be important at night. Depending on the type of your skin, you can opt for oil or water based cleanser.
  2. Exfoliate: Exfoliation can help in the removal of dirt and impurities that plague your skin. It can also get rid of dark spots, pimples, or fine lines. Exfoliation should be done 1-2 times a week.
  3. Toning (optional): Toner can help in evening out the skin tone and also aid in dealing with hyperpigmentation. You can use the same toner for both day and nightcare routine.
  4. Face serum (optional): Application of vitamin C face serum in the morning can aid in protecting the skin from free radical damage. At night, application of hyaluronic acid-based serum can prevent your skin from going dry.
  5. Eye cream (optional): Eye creams can protect the area under your eyes and prevent them from going puffy. You can use a retinoid eye cream especially for your nightcare routine. However, if you are already using a moisturizer and a sunscreen, using eye cream can become an optional step.
  6. Moisturizing cream: If your skin is dry, application of moisturizing cream can help in hydrating the skin and making it more supple and smooth.
  7. Sun protection with sunscreen: A broad-spectrum sunscreen can protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Go for a sun screen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply it every 2 hours to your face, hands, and neck.
  8. Application of makeup (optional): Once your skincare routine is complete, it is time to apply the makeup.

And there you go- you have the step-by-step guide to apply the skincare products. Remember, consistency in the skincare routine is key to obtaining brighter, glowing skin.
