Is Your Skin Healthy? 5 Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

We all admire & dream of having healthy and glowing skin, don’t we? And we do all possible trials to keep our skin healthy. But sometimes it could worsen your overall skin health - creating alarming signs that we shouldn’t ignore. Keep scrolling to know more about these signs.

Skin is the largest organ of the human body. Our skin naturally works as a protective barrier to prevent harmful pathogens & toxins from entering our body. Prolonged & unprotected exposure to pollutants, UV rays, chemicals, unhealthy lifestyle, etc., causes skin issues.

Signs for underlying skin issues:
Skin is a crystal clear window that indicates overall health - reflecting your inner self. Dealing with skin issues can be stressful, but understanding the concern and taking preventive steps will be helpful. Here are some common skin issues we shouldn’t ignore:

  1. Acne:
Acne is most common and frustrating at times. Acne is commonly observed in teenagers, but can come up at any age or lifecycle. When follicles get clogged up with oil, dirt, and bacteria, it leads to acne, causing blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. An acne breakout indicates underlying signs like inflammation, hormonal imbalance, faulty eating habits, choosing the wrong skincare products, excess oil production, bacterial growth, certain medications, etc. To reduce and prevent acne flare-ups, wash your face twice a day, moisturize using Lumi Dew moisturizer, use good-quality cosmetics, and maintain a balanced diet.
  1. Eczema:
Eczema is a chronic inflammatory condition, also known as dermatitis. It can be characterized by dry, itchy, flaky, and inflamed skin. Eczema can occur in all age groups - from babies to adults. If you have a family history or recent diagnosis of asthma, hay fever, dermatitis, allergens, or come in contact with an irritant, then that could be a risk factor. Severe and untreated eczema can cause skin rashes, redness, inflammation, cracked skin patches, bumpy skin, or a change in skin colour. Dry weather, skin infection, stress, etc., can make this worse.  It is good to moisturize your skin, keep it hydrated, and address triggers to prevent eczema.

  1. Cellulitis:
Cellulitis is a bacterial infection where bacteria enter your skin through cracks or broken skin, affecting your skin and tissues underneath. It mostly affects the lower part of the body (legs, feet, and toes) but can also be seen on other body parts. It shows the symptoms of swelling, pain, redness, irritation, skin inflammation, sore skin, and the affected area might turn warm.  Keep your skin moisturized, clean, and treat your wound immediately.

  1. Psoriasis:
It is an autoimmune condition, observed as a speedy and abnormal buildup of dead skin. It causes inflammation, itching, burning, rashes, painful skin, scaly plaques, etc. Injuries, sun exposure, dry skin, certain medications, excess alcohol & smoking, and stress might aggravate symptoms.  It is advised to apply moisturizer daily, keep your skin hydrated, and avoid alcohol & smoking.

  1. Hives:
Hives, also known as Urticaria, are an allergic reaction when the body comes in contact with allergens, food, or a drug. It is characterised by raised and bumpy skin, itching and burning sensation, redness and pale skin, swelling and pain. It can be observed on a specific body part or all over the body. To avoid trigger allergens, prevent skin dryness, and take expert advice for medication/treatment. Having a minor skin issue for a shorter duration is common, but when it turns stubborn and appears for a long time, it might worsen the condition. If you notice uncontrolled signs for any of these issues, it is best to consult healthcare professionals.

Now that you know the 5 signs to look out for, make sure to follow the preventive steps to address them well. Remember, happy you equates to happy skin.
